Virtual Artist Talk by Valerie Hird
Wednesday, February 3, 6:30-7:30pm. Local artist Valerie Hird will present and discuss her origami installation GENESIS TREE NY. Installed at the Nohra Haime Gallery in New York City. It was the result of a year-long crowd-sourced project that brought together diverse age groups and individuals around the world including artists, teachers, museums, hospitals and research groups from 8 countries and 11 US states. The result was 4,000 hand-folded origami forms, which Hird used to assemble a magnificent three-dimensional 10 x 14 foot tree that celebrated the diversity of language, locality and color that distinguishes and connects us all. Adult Craft Kits To-Go: Altered Book Paper Lantern
Use an old paperback to make a beautiful work of art. You will be surprised how easy it is to transform a book into a lantern sculpture without using glue, just simple page folds! This is a great craft to do with children. Stop by the library to pick up a craft kit with a paperback book and instructions.
