Kitchen Science for Kids via Zoom

kitchensciencekidsWednesdays, February 3, 10, 17, & 24, 3-3:30pm. Open to K-4th graders with an adult. Join Registered Dietitian Joanne Heidkamp for a weekly series of science in the kitchen! Each week, Joanne will lead participants to explore simple scientific principals through a variety of demonstrations and hands-on activities using tools and ingredients from the kitchen. Class runs via Zoom. Spanish Conversation Meet-up

Virtual Artist Talk by Valerie Hird

valeriehirdWednesday, February 3, 6:30-7:30pm. Local artist Valerie Hird will present and discuss her origami installation GENESIS TREE NY.  Installed at the Nohra Haime Gallery in New York City. It was the result of a year-long crowd-sourced project that brought together diverse age groups and individuals around the world including artists, teachers, museums, hospitals and research groups from 8 countries and 11 US states.  The result was 4,000 hand-folded origami forms, which Hird used to assemble a magnificent three-dimensional 10 x 14 foot tree that celebrated the diversity of language, locality and color that distinguishes and connects us all. Virtual Chair Yoga for ages 55+ with Carol Bokan NEW!

chairyoga1Thursdays, February 4-25, 12:30-1:30 pm. Join seasoned yoga instructor Carol Bokan in this four-week gentle yoga class that will touch on weekly themes and incorporate centering and breathwork.   For beginners and well-seasoned students alike, this class will incorporate standing and seated poses using a chair for support. If you’ve never tried yoga, but have always been curious this is the perfect class to learn! Themes covered will be gratitude, observation without judgment, letting go and focusing on the breath. Adult Craft Kits To-Go: Altered Book Paper Lantern

paperlanternUse an old paperback to make a beautiful work of art. You will be surprised how easy it is to transform a book into a lantern sculpture without using glue, just simple page folds! This is a great craft to do with children. Stop by the library to pick up a craft kit with a paperback book and instructions.
